A trusted favourite, the Saucony Kinvara has been one of our go-to shoes since its first launch over 10 years ago. It’s 4mm drop and lightweight design is perfect for all kinds of running.
This version maintains that tradition. It is further stripped back through the upper and gains the new ‘dovetailed’ heel. The midsole remains pretty much as in version 11, which for many has been a hit. It will be a little firmer and therefore a touch more responsive.
Best use: Streamlined and fast, the Saucony Kinvara 12 remains the best Saucony running shoe for speed workouts, up-tempo paces and setting PBs.
Upper: The Kinvara 12 upper has had a major upgrade from previous generations, making the shoe lighter and more breathable. The Kinvara 12 owes much of its weight savings to Saucony shaving extra cushioning off the tongue and ankle collar. The new perforated tongue is thin but not floppy, with a suede-like cushion that relieves pressure from the lacing. A snug inner gusset wraps the entire foot, keeping you locked in place.
Midsole: Saucony have tweaked the foam’s mix of EVA and polymers to improve energy return. While it doesn’t pack the punch of the Endorphin series, it does feel firmer and more responsive.
Outsole: A slim layer of softer TPU-based Pwrrun+ sits on top to keep the shoe comfy as a daily trainer—long runs included.
This is what we think “Lightweight, responsive training immediately springs to mind with the Kinvara12. That is in the traditional sense of shoe design. It is a step away from the Saucony Endorphin range, likewise, it is a step away from classic traditional training shoes like the Ride. So a shoe finding the middle ground with advantages for all. For those enjoying the delights of the Endorphin Range will find the Kinvara12 a much firmer ride. The advantage is that it will complement your training in so much you will have to work that little bit harder, you will also maintain foot and ankle strength. Technique will also be tested as you will be doing more of the work. All of which is no bad thing.”
Saucony says: “With an almost cult-like following, the Kinvara is our trusted go-fast running shoe. The Kinvara12 brings a more aggressive edge, thanks to the feedback of our world-class athletes. Still lightweight and flexible, the shoe now has updated geometries for an even faster ride. We also simplified the upper and improved the durability for ticking off more miles in lightweight comfort. Whether training or racing, the Kinvara12 is primed to get you to the start line stronger and the finish line sooner.”
