A staple in the Mizuno range is the Wave Rider, version 26 of the shoe follows the same vein. Slipping your foot into them it’s instantly recognisable as a Mizuno shoe. The plush tongue and heel collar and roomier toe box. However, start running and you sooner realise Mizuno has made some big improvements to the midsole and ride of the shoe.
Best use: The Wave Rider is Mizuno workhorse shoe. Its ENERZY cushioned midsole keeps you feeling fresh on the long run, it’s light enough to feel fast when you want it to and incredibly comfy to use on your easy runs. It’s a true all-rounder.
Upper: Using Mizuno’s AIRmesh through the upper it is both highly breathable and incredibly durable. Meaning Mizuno has managed to strip away overlays from the shoe making it lighter and even comfier. The partially gusseted tongue wraps over your foot combined with the plush padded heel collar makes for a secure and locked-in fit.
Midsole: The cushioning on the Wave Rider 26 has seen the biggest change. Still using ENERZY foam but with an extra 2mm added in the forefoot and the heel. The more noticeable change comes in the form of an increased rocker. Which aids in a smooth transition from heel to toe, and an improved ride to the shoe.
Outsole: High wearing X10 carbon rubber covers the sole for great durability and traction.
Mizuno says “This shoe is perfect for jogging by everyone from beginner runners to dedicated runners training for marathons. The MIZUNO ENERZY midsole is 2 mm thicker than the previous model, which boosts the cushioning and energy return, gives a softer feel, and provides spring-like propulsion. Enjoy the signature running comfort of WAVE RIDER with enhanced smoothness and stability.”
