Springtime: inov-8 AT/C Short Sleeve Base Layer
Ellie Crownshaw works at the Accelerate Store and is a member of Team Accelerate. Supported by inov-8 and Accelerate Performance Centre, she commonly runs and races in inov-8 clothing. For Spring 2017, she turns her attention to using the AT/C Short Sleeve Base Layer. She shares the results below:

Inov8’s AT/C Base t-shirt is perfect for summer runs. It is made from a lightweight, breathable polyester fabric and is designed to provide extra comfort when carrying a pack on long runs.
Its primary function as a base layer is to control moisture. Which it does in three ways.
- Fast drying & breathable.
- Wicks moisture away from the body.
- Ensuring excellent levels of dryness and comfort.
- The top also offers UV protection.
I love the bright colour and the short-capped sleeves (they stop those tell-tale summer tan lines!).
Stay dry and comfortable when running with this Short Sleeve Base Layer. The AT/C BASE SS is a fast-drying, breathable, short sleeve base layer that wicks moisture away from the upper body, ensuring excellent levels of dryness and comfort.
Base layer wicks moisture away from upper body and dries fast.
Polygiene anti-microbial delivers permanent odour control, working in tandem with open mesh under arms.
Extra comfort: Neck collar features inner rucksack band that makes carrying a pack more comfortable.
I put the t-shirts fast drying system to the test on a trail run that included a river crossing (if not several).
The splashes of water dried within seconds, as the shirt continued to breathe and transfer the moisture to the outer surface - as with all base layers. If a further layer had been required (it is a short sleeve after all), then that too would continue to move the moisture even further from my skin, ensuring that my temperature wasn't in danger of dropping while exposed to high winds, low ambient temperatures/environment, rain or simple running fatigue. But as it stands - at this time of year, I'd settle for the short sleeve while running hard and generating plenty of heat as it is. I have every confidence that the same will happen in summer.
The back comes down slightly lower than the sides which stops the top from riding upwards and ensures that it over laps with shorts/tights to prevent cold air from chilling my back. The fit is also lovely and tailored (or, 'fitted').
A great Springtime solution to running in open country or at altitude while the sun attempts, but doesn't always manage to stay out from behind the clouds.
