Tried, Tested and Abused, the On Cloudmonster
Team Accelerate athlete and marathon runner Andy Shelton reviews the all new On Running Cloudmonster and shares his thoughts on the Monster below.
We have had the On cloud, flow, X, surfer, stratus, flash, flyer, ultra, venture peaks, boom, and boom echo to name a few of the On running shoe family.
We now have a new shoe that has come to the party…we have the On Cloud Monster.
Is it a Monster or not?
First impressions, well it’s a little different to the majority of the shoes.
Where does it fit in the range and why this style?
- Price £150
- Road running
- 6mm drop
- 275g in men's 8UK
- 230g in women's 6UK
The new shoe from On is most definitely intended as a daily running shoe, with the emphasis on maximum cushioning and comfort, and great care has gone into this from the team at On.
This shoe compared to all of the styles in the range has maximised the helion foam to help make the ride more pleasant on your feet and legs.
Cloud Tec technology makes up the whole midsole, and on this shoe the clouds stand out much more than normal, which I think adds to the aesthetic, and the trusty Pebax speed board is also back so NO CARBON in this shoe. Combining the two makes the shoe really comfortable and responsive
The upper of the shoe is clean, and has a very nice roomy toe box, so wiggling and moving the toes whilst running is very easy to prevent any cramping in that region. The mesh is well constructed so helps your feet breathe. The rear of the shoe is fuller and helps keep the heel locked in and is very easy on the Achilles.
The sole of the shoe has had extra rubber arranged in such a way that the everyday runner will get plenty of mileage out of it. Even though the shoe looks a little heavy, I do not believe this shoe is not for the heavier runner (that shoe is probably the Cloudstratus) but everybody is unique so that is not to say don’t give it a try!
The On Cloudmonster shoe has been designed to make comfort the main priority, so lots of padding is in the midsole area, without making the shoe too heavy. I found it extremely light to run in, easy on the legs, so a big thumbs up from me there.
So my final thoughts are: if you want comfort, responsiveness, and are not prepared to pay out for carbon plated shoes, this is a great alternative and you will get plenty of happy smiley miles out of it.
Like the sound of that and want to get your hands on your own pair?
The Cloudmonster is now available both in-store and online now.
