Dig Deep. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. What is doesn’t say though is “yeeeees! I did it!” I’ve not had what you’d call an ideal build up, what with spraining my right ankle in March and then a stress fracture in the left ankle early June. I’m not going to lie, I was a little anxious. July onwards I’d resisted the urge to wrap myself in cotton wool AND bubble wrap and got out on the hills training. Sometimes, the mental battle was every bit as hard as the physical one. Those inner voices of “you’re not fit … Continue reading
Out on my long run yesterday, I found myself reflecting. This time last year it looked like running distances over half marathons runs were no longer an option, but after a month or two of drastically reduced mileage, I was still in pain with my back, and miserable too. Sack this! Yoga, strength work and really steady mileage and endurance build – either that or go mad! It paid off and in the end 2018 was actually pretty ace. I achieved 3rd place female at the LadyBower Trail Marathon in June, entering trail races ‘for fun’ and really enjoying them … Continue reading
There was this shoe brand. They produced a range of shoes with one in particular that the trail and fell running types, in many cases, couldn’t get enough off. One that many will … Continue reading

High carb diets are needed by ultra runners who simply cannot consume enough calories to prevent them burning muscle which is obviously detrimental to performance. However, the type of carbohydrates need to be carefully considered. Carbohydrates can be especially useful for during long training runs and races. They are easy to transport, generally require no refrigeration and easy to eat. Bananas and energy bars are a firm favourite as they are easily … Continue reading
It was my pleasure to attend the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, or ‘SHAFF’ on the 9th of March, for a screening of a feature length documentary that collected the prize for Best Film in this year’s competition. The film is Unbreakable: The Western States 100. The film covers the 2010 Western States Endurance Race, and showcases the four Ultra Distance champions who battled it out for first place. The four in question are Hal Koerner, Anton Krupicka, Geoff Roes, and Kilian Jornet. Each runner remained individually undefeated until this race, and the cameras were there to record the event, as … Continue reading
