If there is one thing we can be certain of with Scott Running is this: “If it ain’t broke leave it alone”. This day and age that is a rare thing. Too many shoe brands update their shoes every six months or just bring in a new fresher colourway. Not Scott. Yes, as a shoe gains traction (Yes, that was intended :-) ) they will change the colour or the upper annually. Not a guarantee though. What you will see is the successful elements of one shoe taken into the next newer shoe. This plus something different and improved to … Continue reading
Harry Smith is an Accelerate Community member and a regular at Running past 50, he shares his reason behind getting out the door for a run and its positive effect on his mental and physical health. ‘Pain is inevitable, Suffering is optional ‘The words of Haruki Murakami when talking about running. I started to run just 2 months short of my 72nd birthday. Dragooned into accompanying my 7-yearold Granddaughter on a park run As a fairly fit twice a week Derbyshire fell walker and numerous long-distance paths completed, i.e. Pennine Way and Coast to Coast, the thought of a 5-kilometre … Continue reading
Running Power… go on then what do you think this actually means? Power, is nothing new in sporting terms as cyclists have been developing this as a means of training to a high level for some time. In running it is still very much in its infancy. Garmin have had an app for a while yet the real pioneers have been Stryd. When heart rate first came along back in the 80’s and into the 90’s it was a different story. Take your average sports watch and add in heart rate – away you go. Then speed and distance … Continue reading
There has been plenty of new and updated Trail shoes this last year and thinning the list down to a handful of contenders has been tough enough. Sometimes trail footwear has to be so much more than just a shoe for the rough and ready, it also has to be robust and something that can be taken for short periods ‘off trail’. Some are designed for rocky conditions, others for muddy trails and others for longer runs so comfort becoming an increasingly important factor. The cross over in-fact could be deemed a mind field and time spent deciding on the … Continue reading
Both trail shoes, both have the same Inov-8 standard fit and foot shape, both designed for the trail…yet is there a need for both in your kit bag? The Terraclaw has been around for a little over a year whilst the Trail Talon moves in to replace the Trail Ultra. So what’s the difference? What shoes from other brands are they competing against? More importantly how do they run? Questions, questions and more questions… sometimes the Inov-8 range appears a little confusing, yet they only have two styles they class as ‘Trail’ and this is them. Both shoes are available with … Continue reading
There was this shoe brand. They produced a range of shoes with one in particular that the trail and fell running types, in many cases, couldn’t get enough off. The brand then made the call to regroup their product and pull out of Europe. Well that particular shoe may not be making a return, yet the good news is that Brand will be. The next few weeks will see an exclusive for Accelerate, a shoe branded and badged from one of Europe’s finest and largest events. A shoe that has a reputation for grip, fit and comfort. One that many will … Continue reading
Funny, it may well have been a while since my last proper running trip to Snowdonia, yet with a week booked the last two things I expected was Costa del Wales and footwear that made ‘Sense’ out of Mountain Running. I love the Peak District, the running in the whole area is very good with options of open fell side and very hilly trails. It is a good proving ground for the higher regions over to the west and of course further north. Choosing training routes that climb, descend, then climb a few times more, with the corresponding descents, can … Continue reading
So where does all this start, this Simple Joy? For me it was a dream to be a footballer, Peter Shilton, actually. Yep, I was the chap between the sticks. I was pretty good with County representation leading to Regional at No2. I was also picked up by The Posh and twice a week attended Goalie training at London Road. Yes, you’ve guessed, I never made it, apparently I wasn’t tall enough. I guess a nice way of saying ‘You’re not good enough son’. Oh well. “Hey, Stu, fancy running a Half Marathon?” So in comes the running boom of the 80’s … Continue reading
There really is so much happening, I have little idea of where to start. Whatever, is happening is always about a simple love of running, of trying to do the right thing and if I am honest trying to make sure that those two things remain, always. These two things apply to the fun side of life and also to a life in business. Trying to maintain that balance of what you believe and strive for inevitable leads to a certain amount of something akin to, well, cynicism, perhaps. Yet, it also leads to something else. To do stuff, the simple things, to help … Continue reading
