Winter. Love it or loath it living in the UK its something we can’t get around. When you combine that with heading into the hills. What to carry in your pack can be life saving. Now this list is personal and will vary depending on where about you are running. For instance, nipping up and down the canal toe past you might need to take less vs heading up a snow-capped peak you might pack more. This is simply a guide to work from. Waterproofs, both Jacket and Trousers with taped seams An extra base layer, Merino is great as … Continue reading
Worldwide Virtual 10K Masters Challenge Championship. The running year started promisingly enough for me with a chilly England qualifying half marathon in Helsby, Chester in January. Being freezing cold I nipped round in 1:43:39 so I could get back to my big coat as soon as my legs would carry me, 1st F65 and qualifier for England International in Fleet in March. Storm Dennis put paid to my February BMAF 10K Championship in Poole. Then, in March, came the Covid-19 lockdown. The England representation half marathon in Fleet was canceled and so, month on month was every other … Continue reading
I’m writing this after a tough, dark and windy solo session. Just a getting it done session. It’s the first proper session I have done since we have gone back into lockdown. This has got me thinking about how much value a team brings. If you have always been solo or always been part of a team, you may not be fully aware of how valuable it is. However, having been a member of (in my opinion) one of the best training groups out there to then having to go back to training solo is very weird. The Team Momentum: … Continue reading

How many weeks? Fourteen, I think since we last met up for Team Training. So what have we been doing? With racing still looking like it is only on the horizon and possibly not set to return for a while, perhaps next year for larger events, training has not been as difficult as you may think. Some folk will always train towards race goals, such as the need to cover a set distance. Yet the Flamingos are very much geared towards improving that which needs improving. It could be strength, it could be endurance or perhaps lactate tolerance. So during … Continue reading
Accelerate-Scott Team member Harvey has been lucky enough to get his hands on a pair of the new Scott Supertrac 2’s and over the last month has been putting them through their paces. Keep reading to hear what he has to think about this iconic shoe from Scott. When I initially heard Scott were updating the Supertrac i was very sceptical as they have easily been my favourite trail and fell shoe for the whole 2019. Weather it was racing or training, short or long it worked for it all. Thankfully Scott follow along the lines of if it ain’t … Continue reading
Will Burton is a member of Team Accelerate-SCOTT, and regularly trains with the watchful eye of coach Stu. However Will is also incredible when it comes to playing the Tuba, so amazing in fact he made it to the finals for Young Muscian of the Year for Brass instruments. Post competition Will has put pen to paper with his thoughts on the correlation between running and music. With music, just like running, I feel it is always important to push yourself. In both disciplines, finding new challenges brings about the greatest improvement. I was certainly nervous before the competition, … Continue reading
Dig Deep. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. What is doesn’t say though is “yeeeees! I did it!” I’ve not had what you’d call an ideal build up, what with spraining my right ankle in March and then a stress fracture in the left ankle early June. I’m not going to lie, I was a little anxious. July onwards I’d resisted the urge to wrap myself in cotton wool AND bubble wrap and got out on the hills training. Sometimes, the mental battle was every bit as hard as the physical one. Those inner voices of “you’re not fit … Continue reading
