Scott Kinabalu Ultra RC

New Scott Kinabalu Ultra RC

Posted on by Accelerate Running Store

If there is one thing we can be certain of with Scott Running is this: “If it ain’t broke leave it alone”. This day and age that is a rare thing. Too many shoe brands update their shoes every six months or just bring in a new fresher colourway. Not Scott. Yes, as a shoe gains traction (Yes, that was intended :-) ) they will change the colour or the upper annually. Not a guarantee though. What you will see is the successful elements of one shoe taken into the next newer shoe. This plus something different and improved to … Continue reading

‘The Basics’ – Clothing

Posted on by Guest Blogger

‘The Basics’ – a regular look at the simple elements which make running gear useful to the runner. Explanations for those who don’t yet know, along with some facts to cut through the marketing nonsense out there, of which there is plenty! Part one was Midsoles Part two was Outsoles Today – it’s clothing. There’s clothing and there’s clothing. We’ll use the common T-Shirt, or ‘Tee’ as our example. For running purposes, there are certain priorities: Moisture Management Temperature Regulation Bacteria Management Anti-Chafe Weather Resistance UV Protection Use within a layering system… Let’s take a look at these criteria in … Continue reading

Screw this!

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Saucony have taken a bold step and released trail shoes which openly invite the user to customise them… By drilling holes in them, or screwing screws into the underside. And before you dismiss the idea, think about the possibilities. We all appreciate a good trail shoe.  Comfort over an outright fell shoe, but more responsive and protective than the softer road alternatives.  The studs you find on most trail shoes offer traction and if made of the correct rubber, a lot of grip as well.  But only to a point.  No one shoe will work on all surfaces.  In … Continue reading

Polar Ignite Review – completely plagiarised by Houghboy

Posted on by Guest Blogger

In an unprecedented move, I’ve literally ripped off another review here, because I couldn’t say it any better. So courtesy of Mr. Duncan Bell via T3.com, here is a review of the all new Polar Ignite, a watch which has me excited, since it looks great, features colour touch screen and state of the art wrist based heart rate, but most importantly, might actually last for the time it takes me to complete an ultra distance event!  Oh and the price is what you’d expect from something ‘entry level’, which I assure you, this ain’t. If, like me, you fall … Continue reading

On Running Cloudstratus – first look…

Posted on by Guest Blogger

You can have too much of a good thing…… ….but sometimes – MORE is MORE!   Meet Cloudstratus.  The all new deep cushion, high miler from On. These ‘double-decker’ shoes, at first glance take some getting used to, but boy are they equipped with some serious cushioning?! But cushioning alone can be too much of a good thing, unless stable.  Which is why Swiss running engineers On have fashioned the Cloudstratus in such a way that it still remains structured enough for a responsive ride, strong push off and a feeling of comfort throughout what may, for many, prove … Continue reading

Ultimate Direction Month: How to pack a pack.

Posted on by Guest Blogger

It’s a free country.  We all have our favourite kit.  Our preferred way of doing stuff. But for what it’s worth, here are my top tips on how to ‘pack a pack’ in association with Beta Running & Ultimate Direction. Taking the Ultimate Direction Signature Series Scott Durek Ultra Vest as our running vest of choice… For a breakdown of what makes a running vest the ideal piece of running related storage, read my recent blog entitled ‘What IS a Running Vest?‘   If you’re running for long enough.  You’ll likely need a drink.  If running for hours on … Continue reading

Ultimate Direction Month: What IS a Running Vest?

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Traditionally, hikers  would travel for prolongued periods while carrying all of the equipment necessary to cope with eating and drinking on the move, sheltering from the elements and covering distances over varied terrain.  The job was made easier through the use of a rucksac, or backpack.   As people more commonly opted to run the same distances without so many overnight stops, the need to carry quite the same volume of kit decreased (unless you were in the military) and so too did the size of the pack. Hence, people began running with a scaled down version of the … Continue reading

Best in Test 2017…

OK, we do this every year. We always get around to what we think have been the best products that the store has had on its shelves and that we have had the good fortune to have a play with this last year. So this year we thought, well, ‘We could pass on our thoughts…’ So there you have it, we’ve put our heads together and by the end of the year we will have reviewed our ‘Best in Test 2017’.  It will be kit, shoes and gear we have actually tested – and there is a lot off it.  … Continue reading

Placebos (plural noun) a medicine or procedure prescribed for the psychological benefit to the patient rather than for any physiological effect. Compressions (plural noun) the action of compressing or being compressed. the reduction in volume (causing an increase in pressure) of the fuel mixture in an internal-combustion engine before ignition.     Depending on your point of view, you’ll either swear by the use of compression clothing, or you’ll scoff at the very notion. The facts, backed by various lengthy studies and experiments are: Compression clothing is proven to; 1. Enhance blood flow, increasing the rate at which muscles … Continue reading
