Road to Madeira, A Virtual Race Report by Dot Kesterton

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Worldwide Virtual 10K Masters Challenge Championship.   The running year started promisingly enough for me with a chilly England qualifying half marathon in Helsby, Chester in January. Being freezing cold I nipped round in 1:43:39 so I could get back to my big coat as soon as my legs would carry me, 1st F65 and qualifier for England International in Fleet in March.   Storm Dennis put paid to my February BMAF 10K Championship in Poole. Then, in March, came the Covid-19 lockdown. The England representation half marathon in Fleet was canceled and so, month on month was every other … Continue reading

Team A, The A Team

Posted on by Team Accelerate

I’m writing this after a tough, dark and windy solo session. Just a getting it done session. It’s the first proper session I have done since we have gone back into lockdown. This has got me thinking about how much value a team brings. If you have always been solo or always been part of a team, you may not be fully aware of how valuable it is. However, having been a member of (in my opinion) one of the best training groups out there to then having to go back to training solo is very weird. The Team Momentum: … Continue reading

Team Accelerate Scott Athlete Stuart Walkers opinion on the new Scott Kinabalu Ultra RC

Posted on by Team Accelerate

I have been wearing Scott shoes for a while now, and it’s fair to say they have got better and better. From originals like the Trail Rockets, they have kept what was good and thrown away what didn’t work. My current favorites are the Supertrac RC Ultra, which has basically been my go-to shoes for everything (except rare tarmac outings) for the last couple of years. The latest release from Scott is the Kinabalu Ultra RC. These came out in June and lots of excited people have talked about how good they are in summer, but what about now we’re … Continue reading

The Saucony Endorphin Pro

Posted on by Team Accelerate

I have been lucky enough to get my hand on a pair of the Endorphin Pro’s. The latest entry from Saucony in the carbon shoe battle happening right now. If you head to any busy running area you are bound to see at least a couple of people wearing carbon plated shoes. Ever since the first few companies released carbon plated shoes and amassed a cult following, PB’s and world records started dropping like flies. Until now I haven’t had a pair, so when the Endorphins bounced through the door I was very interested to see if the hype they … Continue reading

Together Again… No Flapping Here!

Posted on by Team Accelerate

How many weeks? Fourteen, I think since we last met up for Team Training. So what have we been doing? With racing still looking like it is only on the horizon and possibly not set to return for a while, perhaps next year for larger events, training has not been as difficult as you may think. Some folk will always train towards race goals, such as the need to cover a set distance. Yet the Flamingos are very much geared towards improving that which needs improving.  It could be strength, it could be endurance or perhaps lactate tolerance. So during … Continue reading

Scott Supertrac 2, Making the fast, faster!

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Accelerate-Scott Team member Harvey has been lucky enough to get his hands on a pair of the new Scott Supertrac 2’s and over the last month has been putting them through their paces. Keep reading to hear what he has to think about this iconic shoe from Scott. When I initially heard Scott were updating the Supertrac i was very sceptical as they have easily been my favourite trail and fell shoe for the whole 2019. Weather it was racing or training, short or long it worked for it all. Thankfully Scott follow along the lines of if it ain’t … Continue reading

The New Polar Grit X – Tried and Test by Will Burton

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Late April Polar released their latest in wearable training aids in the form of the Grit X. Boasting longer battery life, some fancy new features and all in all an almost indestructible package. Accelerate team member Will Burton has been using a Grit X for the last few months and shares his likes and dislikes about Polar’s latest invention. I have been lucky enough to own a few Polar watches since I started running, they M430, V800 and now the Grit X. Something that always impresses me with polar is their attention to detail, even when it comes to the … Continue reading

Running and Music, a perfect harmony by Will Burton

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Will Burton is a member of Team Accelerate-SCOTT, and regularly trains with the watchful eye of coach Stu. However Will is also incredible when it comes to playing the Tuba, so amazing in fact he made it to the finals for Young Muscian of the Year for Brass instruments. Post competition Will has put pen to paper with his thoughts on the correlation between running and music. With music, just like running, I feel it is always important to push yourself. In both disciplines, finding new challenges brings about the greatest improvement.   I was certainly nervous before the competition, … Continue reading

Dig Deep!

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Dig Deep. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. What is doesn’t say though is “yeeeees! I did it!” I’ve not had what you’d call an ideal build up, what with spraining my right ankle in March and then a stress fracture in the left ankle early June. I’m not going to lie, I was a little anxious. July onwards I’d resisted the urge to wrap myself in cotton wool AND bubble wrap and got out on the hills training. Sometimes, the mental battle was every bit as hard as the physical one. Those inner voices of “you’re not fit … Continue reading

Smashing Hathersage Hurtle through PMA & focused rehab

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Today, Saturday 18 May, was a pretty epic day all in all. Just 7 weeks ago, I sprained my ankle. It looked like an elephant club foot, so attractive! Having to pull out of the four inns ultra was crap. Facing weeks without being able to run wasn’t any better. Those of you who know me well will be well aware I’m determined and ‘strong willed’ (polite way of saying stubborn). I’ve used this as a positive over the last few weeks, with the hathersage hurtle as my immediate goal for rehab and oh my God, have I worked hard … Continue reading
