Once again the High Peak Marathon evades. Once again, that might not be such a bad thing.
Still recovering very slowly from Sesamoid Bone/Tendon/Muscle aggro, I recently agreed to join a friend’s team and see what came of the entry (famously tight, with very few places available).
42 miles, at night, in early March, with snow most years and reducing me to a gruesome jog/walk over the final 12 miles across Kinder scout/Brown Knoll/Rushup Edge. I had at that time promised myself that if I EVER entered again, I’d first be in such great shape that I could run the entire thing and prune some from my 13hr, 38min slog.
Having been knocked back, I’m quietly satisfied that my recovery can progress unchallenged, rather than evolve into my ‘retirement from running’.
Doesn’t mean I won’t be after a crack at HPM in 2019, but for now, I’d consider myself a ‘Couch25K’ contender. See how that goes….
