Please HELP!

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Two things: 1) I’m struggling to write a simple piece on ‘Race Planning’, which should have just tripped off the fingers a good week, if not a fortnight ago.  Complete writer’s block.  I’m busy writing and re-writing at the moment.  Hope it’s worth a read when I finally get finished! 2) I’ve chosen to try my longest Ultra Distance Run yet in 2016 (62 mile South Coast Challenge – pictured above) and with it comes my first bout of fundraising in a few years.  If people don’t mind offering just £1 toward Cancer Research UK – it’d be really … Continue reading

Sealskinz Ultra Grip Glove review – by Roz Massey*

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Hello all. Back again with another customer review.  This time it’s Accelerate ‘Hump Run‘ regular and all round running enthusiast Roz Massey, with the Sealskinz Ultra Grip Glove.  *Roz was lucky enough to win a recent contest on our Facebook page – whereby she got to collect the gloves and keep them, in return for a short review about how they were to use.  Here then, is that review.  Thanks Roz.  See you next Wednesday! As a nesh Northerner (with an unhelpful 12 years spent down South) who suffers from Raynaud’s, gloves are a very important part of my … Continue reading

The ‘Dirty Double’ – race report by Dot Kesterton.

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Dot Kesterton is Team Accelerate’s V60 Female and barely needs introduction.  She can be found running as part of local ladies’ club ‘The Smiley Paces’ when she isn’t Park Running or competing at national level for her age group.  No slouch.               Lakeland Trails, ‘Dirty Double’ report. The Smiley Paces running club moved en masse to Helvellyn Youth Hostel and neighbouring bunkhouse for the last of the Lakeland Trail series, Helvellyn on Saturday 7th November and Ullswater on Sunday 8th November 2015. A pair of fairly short races with a good bit of … Continue reading

The conditions: a mental or physical challenge?

Posted on by Team Accelerate

February 2005 – my first ever race. Lining up for the start of the St Valentine 30k, I could never have imagined the incredible range of races I would go on to do in the next 10 years. From Dorset to Dublin, it has been a wonderful way of seeing this world of ours. Having just raced in the searing conditions of the Canary Islands, it got me thinking – what are the toughest conditions to race in? This question was at the forefront of my mind as I raced along the northern coastline of Tenerife in 30 degree heat … Continue reading

inov-8 Race Ultra Mitt – Customer Review

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Another day – another great product review, this time from regular customer and Ashmei supported runner Simon Green. Simon recently bought a pair of the new inov-8 Race Ultra Mitts, which have come in ‘handy’ this week, so he’s sent us a lovely two-penneth. Cheers Simon – happy running! His thoughts were as follows:   Inov-8 Race Ultra Mitt Review I was very pleased to get my hands on, or indeed in, the inov-8 Race Ultra Mitts. I first noticed them a few weeks ago whilst browsing online and was struck by their simplicity. And so I was delighted … Continue reading

15th World Masters Mountain Running Championships – a race report by Dot Kesterton

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Dot Kesterton is Team Accelerate’s V60 Female and barely needs introduction.  She can be found running as part of local ladies’ club ‘The Smiley Paces’ when she isn’t Park Running or competing at national level for her age group.  No slouch. She’s only just appeared in Sheffield’s local evening newspaper ‘The Star’.  Running for good causes as well, she has a loyal following and rightly so.  You can read that article here. Though a blogger in her own right, she contributed the following race report from this years World Masters, so I’ve done her the favour of posting it for … Continue reading

Insulation – my inov-8 Race Elite Thermoshell

Posted on by Guest Blogger

The inov-8 Race Elite Thermoshell 260 is a thermal pullover that features a breathable surface on one side, with a more windproof surface on the reverse.  The option to change from one to the other is great for making on the fly adjustments according to the conditions you face.  The elasticated fittings and zipped chest pocket, along with built in thumb loops for protecting the back of your hands while still having use of your fingers means it’s a very versatile piece. I first began using the inov-8 Race Elite Thermoshell in 2013.  I’ve lived in it ever since. … Continue reading
