Hey, I recently received a pair of the new, soon to be released Race Ultra Shoes from inov-8. The ‘290s’ are a great looking pair of shoes, stacked for high mileage, with some clever little features. My first impression is excitement, as I’m more a fan of ultras than anything else and the fact is – I’ve never tried a ‘deep pan’ shoe as I call them. I’m a thin and crispy kinda guy!
Will this shoe bring comfort to the table? Will I enjoy the variety of terrain you might expect to cover on most ultra distance events? Will anybody point and laugh at me in my LADIES size UK6?
These questions and more will be answered in our online Magazine very soon, but to give you all a heads up:
The results so far –
I have already run to/from work in this shoe for the last few days. Entirely road/pavement routes have so far provided me with a test of how comfy the shoe is under foot and it behaves in such a neutral fashion, I couldn’t really feel anything going on. That’s better than it might sound, as I was in no way preoccupied with them. No frustration, no rubbing, no discomfort in any sense. So far so good then. When I did have to tackle a slightly more technical surface(cobbles/stony waste ground etc) the shoe revealed just how stable it is, along with a hint at the cushioning at play. On even pavements through Hillsborough/Wicker/Attercliffe they made for smooth running.
I’m really liking them for the amount Ive done and despite not trying anything close to an ultra in them, my tired legs(due to a recent return to running proper) felt the benefit of a less demanding shoe for a change.
Once I’ve tested them on trails and rocky ground I shall post a full review on the magazine including full specs.
