"Patagonia wants to be in business for a good long time, and a healthy planet is necessary for a healthy business. We want to act responsibly, live within our means and leave behind not only a habitable planet, but an Earth whose beauty and biodiversity is protected for those who come after us.
We think that business can inspire solutions to the environmental crisis, and that we owe those that work in the textile industry fair labor practices and safe working conditions."
Patagonia appeal to Accelerate's sense of what's most important in running. Comfort and performance, with minimal impact on the environment - and a respect for what makes this sport such a joy to begin with, beautiful locations worth exploring.
Just as Accelerate have always offered customers the option of a re-usable bag in place of cardboard boxes, Patagonia make the gesture - but on a global scale. They invite any and everyone in possession of a Patagonia product to return it at the end of its life, so that it might be re-used in the production of something brand new - whatever it was, whatever it turns out to be!
Developing products that work, and feel unlike anything else you've ever worn, while at the same time reducing the damage we do to the world we want to go explore - through use of recycled materials and an ever watchful eye on the 'footprint' left behind.
In 2014, Patagonia expect to have introduced footwear made of 100% recycled material.
"We can’t pose Patagonia as the model of a responsible company. We don’t do everything a responsible company can do, nor does anyone else we know. But we can tell you how we came to realize our environmental and social responsibilities, and then began to act on them. Like other things in human life, it began with one step that led to another."
