New Balance Technical Guru’s have visited the store and spent time with the staff ensuring that they are fully aware of all the latest technologies available for running. Then there is shoe fit, sizing for length and width, curved and straight feet that need to be correctly fitted.

Accelerate:: Total Foot Fit and Gait Analysis

James Thexton, New Balance, was immediately impressed with the level of service offered by Accelerate to its customers when it came down to Video Gait Analysis. “Very Thorough”, he said when he was taken through the Accelerate Total Fit and Gait Analysis Experience.

The process begins by checking the standing position of every runner who visits the store. This moves onto the position and function of the feet. As Stuart pointed out, “Even flat feet can function effectively and require little or no support”.

The amount of inward roll of the feet is looked at, including where the movement occurs. This is very important as many runners buy their shoes based on the inward roll and movement of the heel during the running process. However, it is not always the heel that is rolling and also the body is superb and compensating for things that are not quite as they should be. “So let it added”, added James.

Once the trained staff at Accelerate have determined the foot’s unique movement it is on to the treadmill to check these observations. For this a neutral shoe is used. The running gait is videoed and then is replayed, frame by frame, looking at the foot and lower limbs.

For Accelerate the running gait is analysed in four clear stages. As the foot lands, when it and the leg are fully weight bearing, at toe off and then in mid air. This process is reviewed for both legs and feet. From here, working with the runner, the correct pair of shoes can be chosen for that person’s unique running style and foot shape.
