Arty Running

Posted on by Accelerate Running Store

Urban or Street Art is appearing in most cities. I’m not just talking graffiti. In Sheffield we are blessed with the likes of Pete McKee and Phlegm, among others, who have taken the opportunity to redecorate our streets.  Love it or hate it, Sheffield is getting a real reputation for the quality of street art and in around the City; there is plenty to be found. During Lock-down what better time than now to go discover the street art that the City has to offer. The process is fairly straightforward and it all starts with finding out where to look … Continue reading

Do love a good hill #noshortcuts

Posted on by Team Accelerate

I’d planned a leisurely weekend in the lakes with a mate, bit of parkrun tourism at Keswick….then get asked to help out with steel city striders’ relay team. They were a couple of ladies down due to injury for the British fell relay champs in Grasmere. Seemed like fate, given I was a mere 15 minutes away from race hq. Felt absolutely shocking with a cold all week, bricking it about having stamina for a Race I knew nothing about, other than a big chuff off hill. Prepared? Not a chance! Still, I had base fitness and couldn’t not do … Continue reading

Running the French Alps

Posted on by Run Stu

People will travel the World to discover the best Mountain Trails and a number of areas have become ‘musts’ to visit. None more so than Chamonix in the heart of the French Alps, more so if you are based within Europe. Chamonix, has always been well known as a ski destination and as Trail and Mountain Running developed, so the Ultra Tour du Mont Blanc was instigated and is now considered to be one of the top long distance events in the World.  As a result during the key racing period accommodation in the area can be tougher to find … Continue reading

From Sheffield to Chamonix – Part 2. Kneehab.

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Training was going well until the first week of August, where one bad foot plant in the middle of a brilliant session repping Win Hill set me back about four months. The knee problems that have plagued me since the win at Kielder came back to the fore, and it was a mad dash down to the Accelerate Performance Centre to see Pete Down and get an assessment. In twenty four hours I would be on a plane bound for Geneva and a connection to Chamonix for a training weekend in the very mountains I would be racing in at … Continue reading

Time to ‘Raise the Fells!’

Posted on by Run Stu

The Salomon Fellraiser Head Torch Run is upon us…It’s tomorrow night… If you are reading this and wondering, ‘What’s this?’ Then, my previous blog will explain all: There’s a Certain Joy to Night Running >>  For those planning to come along it looks like it is going to be a busy one, as we reckon over 30 folk have said they are coming along.  So with this in mind, a chance to remind everyone about the route, what to bring and what to expect.  We did not anticipate this level of response, but that’s OK, we have recced the route quite a … Continue reading

There’s a Certain Joy to Night Running…

Posted on by Run Stu

And I am not just talking about running through the city centre, with winters chill in the air and bright lights all around. Don’t get me wrong the bright lights of the city should never be underestimated.  What I am talking about is the complete opposite. How about the Peak District at the dead of night with practically zero light pollution. The opportunity to turn off your light and just look around. The still of night. Hopefully a clear unhindered view of the Milky Way. The silhouette of the surrounding hills, a feint glow in the sky of a city … Continue reading

‘Sense’ of Mountain Running

Posted on by Run Stu

Funny, it may well have been a while since my last proper running trip to Snowdonia, yet with a week booked the last two things I expected was Costa del Wales and footwear that made ‘Sense’ out of Mountain Running. I love the Peak District, the running in the whole area is very good with options of open fell side and very hilly trails.  It is a good proving ground for the higher regions over to the west and of course further north. Choosing training routes that climb, descend, then climb a few times more, with the corresponding descents, can … Continue reading

‘Going Long’, Unexpectedly!

Posted on by Run Stu

Funny really, I just never occurred to me that one day I would run further then the Marathon distance.  For all the running I have done, it would have been logical to assume I had at some point run further than the Marathon, especially as at one time in my running career 50 – 60 mile weeks was not uncommon and even up to 70 miles per week had been achieved.  Despite this I never ever run a good marathon, well at least by my standards.  I had dropped out of more than I had completed and a sub 3-hour … Continue reading
