Since the High Peak 40 I’ve done very little. Oh I’ve been running……….running out of excuses!
One very good excuse was the birth of my baby son Bentley. He’s amazing. He just eats my day is all.
My Suunto Movescount total for the month has suddenly plummeted from a respectable 55hrs to a whopping…….ZERO.
I’m down to 30mins running when I do get chance and that’s to work. If I decide to climb back into the soggy cold gear from the route in, I can extend that to a full hour – and a total of about 7 miles per day.
So you see, I’ve ‘fallen off the horse’ so to speak. I missed the Round Rotherham in order to take care of all things nappy related. Now I’m trying to keep things ticking over enough that I don’t lose all the form I’ve earned throughout 2013.
Soon as there’s a window, I’ll be out and about doing the trails of Rivelin Valley at the very least. Perhaps even a jaunt over to Edale and Kinder for a few hours, who knows?
It’s been so long since I had to pack anything but race essentials, the pack feels very heavy and so too do my legs. This must not continue.
Next time I blog, it’d be nice to share tales of rolling winter hills and crisp clean air. I’d better start turfing all that winter kit from my plastic tubs. Gulp.
Back from retirement will be: Gloves, Hat, Tights, Trail shoes (with spiky tread), Baselayer, Midlayer, Smarwool socks (thick), Darn Tough socks (even thicker), Head Torch, Waterproof jacket, Waterproof Trousers, Windproof Jacket, Top Bags, Wrag30s, Map/Compass, Microspikes, Batteries, Phone, Dry Bags, Food, emergency money, Small Towel, Thermoshell, Spare Long Sleeve, Spare Socks and Water Bottle/s……..some toilet paper possibly. All into a 12L Pack. Those years of Tetris might just pay off!
Guess how much this lot will weigh and I’ll let you know the exact amount once it’s all packed. Leave your estimate back on Facebook, good luck!
