A Simple Joy III… Three Steps Forward!

Posted on by Run Stu

It’s May 2011. The day following the Burbage Skyline. The last thing I remember is talking about the Lake District, strangely enough, with a chap I had never met before. He runs too, loves the trails and fells of the Lakes. “So what’s you favourite fell race th….” Then I am in a different room and I feel pressure around my right knee. Definitely going to go to sleep… but wasn’t I just talking to someone? Surreal, it wasn’t in this room.  Then as the cobwebs clear, I remember. My knee, operation number two.  I start to feel anxious, is it going … Continue reading

What a difference an objective makes

Posted on by Team Accelerate

As many of you may know, the last couple of years I have been focused on Duathlon. Over that period, without fully appreciating the importance of it, I had picked a specific set of goals and targets, with the ultimate goal of success at the 2012 World Championships in Nancy. It was not until I had completed this journey in September 2012 and ticked off all the goals I had set did I fully appreciated how important these targets were. I’d never truly had a dip in form until November-December last year. Of course we all do dum things and … Continue reading

A Simple Joy II… In the Beginning

Posted on by Run Stu

So where does all this start, this Simple Joy?  For me it was a dream to be a footballer, Peter Shilton, actually.  Yep, I was the chap between the sticks.  I was pretty good with County representation leading to Regional at No2.  I was also picked up by The Posh and twice a week attended Goalie training at London Road.  Yes, you’ve guessed, I never made it, apparently I wasn’t tall enough.  I guess a nice way of saying ‘You’re not good enough son’.  Oh well. “Hey, Stu, fancy running a Half Marathon?” So in comes the running boom of the 80’s … Continue reading

Now then Mr Mayor, about your bikes

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Glorious morning of riding yesterday. Getting out on the trails just as the sun came up, five hours later I returned caked in mud but smiling from ear to ear. I was planning to head into London in the afternoon to meet up with some friends so quickly hosed the bike down and got myselrf cleaned up – apparently the muddy mountain biker look was not going to cut it in London, who knew! Upon arrival at London Liverpool St I found out that the tubes had been paralysed by signal failures. On the spur of the moment, I decided … Continue reading

Happy feet.

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Oh my goodness gracious me, the Puma Faas300 Trail shoes are going to be the death of me.  Not because there’s anything wrong with them, but because despite fatigue and difficult winter conditions – my feet just want me to keep going. This morning was the most fun I’ve had in yonks (80s for a long time).  Before I give the shoes all the credit though, I might mention a few factors that contributed toward a very satisfying run out. First things first, the route.  Blessed as we are with the Peak District on our doorstep, my destination today … Continue reading

This little piggie.

Posted on by Guest Blogger

Hello all.  Just thought I’d share something ugly with you. I ran the Rowbotham Round Rotherham (RRR) last year, and while noticing that my toenails had gone a funny colour, thought nothing of it.  Over the ensuing months, I saw that there was little improvement, and naturally – every time I went for a run, chanced making them worse.  Slowly but surely they grew, revealing clean healthy nail gradually replacing the battered ones I’d rendered black and blue. Then in new year 2013, while out in the Peak District, I collected so much dirt under the entire length of … Continue reading

A Simple Joy…

Posted on by Run Stu

There really is so much happening, I have little idea of where to start.  Whatever, is happening is always about a simple love of running, of trying to do the right thing and if I am honest trying to make sure that those two things remain, always. These two things apply to the fun side of life and also to a life in business.  Trying to maintain that balance of what you believe and strive for inevitable leads to a certain amount of something akin to, well, cynicism, perhaps. Yet, it also leads to something else. To do stuff, the simple things, to help … Continue reading

Training with a cold

Posted on by Team Accelerate

Tough week of training this week. Paid the price for confidently believing I had avoided having a cold for the second year running. I very rarely get ill and I decided to see what would happen if training through it might help speed recovery. Result: very positive. Managed to get back to reasonable health in 3 days. Can’t say it was a great deal of fun cycling indoors with my nose streaming everywhere and feeling pretty awful. However after each session I definitely felt better for having done it. Not sure if there is any science behind this, any thoughts? … Continue reading
